When I began on my journey into photography, I had no idea what it would turn into. I honestly just took it on because it was fun and I loved the creative outlet. I had never envisioned it becoming something I could use to help support my family. I didn't think it would become such a huge role in my life.
I will never forget my very first session. I did it for free and had no clue what I was doing. I just knew I wanted to explore what it meant to take photos of real interaction and that at the end of the day that's all I really cared about when it came to photographing people. I remember snapping the photo below...10 years ago now....and thinking "THIS. This is what I want. An image that I can feel and a real moment." I still remember that moment of conscious realization midst my artistic discovering process. Even as a baby of photography. I was shooting on auto, had no clue about lighting or editing and was just learning as I went and did free sessions. How most of us start right? I know a lot of us started out without a clue or a mentor and just trying to figure out who we are were as artists.
During this time of uncertainty for mankind, I'm trying to focus on growth. That can be in any form for any one person. For me it can change daily and that's ok. Today I needed to remember where I've come from. That sometimes growth will look fast and furious and sometimes you'll have to baby it and it'll be sprouts coming from the soil over a long period of time. But looking back over where we've came from and measuring ourselves AGAINST OURSELVES and NO ONE ELSE is only where we can see growth.
- This first image is the one I spoke about above. My very first session ever.
- The second image is from a session in 2018. I LOVED this set and could feel it deep in my gut. I remember after sending the second of the set to my client she expressed how moved she was. The ring she was wearing was from a very loved grandma and it just caught her heart up. This is the stuff for me.
